As of 2019; all students who came to sit for the University post utme were given a magazine which boldly contained photos and details of the University dressing code, showing how important dressing has been.
It’s important to always remember the meaning of the University Motto; Character and learning. To this end, the University has said she will only award her degrees to only deserving students who have been found worthy not only in learning but also in character. Students are therefore strongly advised to exhibit good behaviour and dress decently at all times.
The University of Ilorin for years has been strict in its dressing system.
The school has from the out set administered the dressing of students which must be observed within the campus, right from the school gate, to the campus environment, there are officers who watch that students are well dressed and of course that starts by putting on your ID card.
The issue of dressing in Unilorin has been there since the time of Prof. Ishaq Oloyede administration as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin.
Of recent, a student was held by the University management for dress code offense, that was only one of the many students who fails to adopt the dressing principles of the school at one point or other.
The notice which emanated from the dress code committee have sparked outrage on social media by students of the school who feels the rule of dressing is extreme and a violation of their rights as students.
One student who posted on social media opined that the current VC, Prof. Abdulkareem Age is on a mission to ‘islamatize’ the school.
“Unilorin is not trying to Islamatize the University; the Dressing code has been one of the uniqueness of the University and the school is mainly interested in the character and long kept image of the University, the dressing code is not just for students but also staffs”
